With the Church of Stop Shopping, a radical performance and activist community based in New York, Reverend Billy steers the narrative of consumerism in our society in a more radical direction of change. He aims to bring to light the harmful consumer culture, which many fall victim to, and believes consumerism makes us stupid. Trump, along with many other political figures, personifies this consumerist culture, alongside many other problematic traits. As an avid Trump-opposer, Reverend Billy has begun the Trump Depression Hotline tour across the UK and Switzerland. Comprised of thirteen members of the Stop Shopping Choir, The Trump Depression Hotline involves performing and doing actions to protest against injustice and Trump, as well as to preach on how to stand up and fight for a change in attitudes.
Reverend Billy will preach and impart his wisdom at the Cabaret Voltaire, along with DragonFly, one of the members of the Stop Shopping Choir, self professed “cheap artist” Gregory Corbino and the students of the “Performing Truth: Art and Activism in the Age of Fantastical Politics” platform from the Master of Arts in Theater, of the Zurich University of the Arts.
